They discharge you with clear instructions. Not just a stack of papers.

I've been going back and forth on whether to write this review but I think other patients deserve to know. My experience here was deeply disappointing given the hospital's reputation. I came to the ER with severe abdominal pain, nausea, and fever. After 4 hours in the waiting room (during which my pain got significantly worse), I was finally taken to a room. The ER doctor ordered blood work and a CT scan. Results came back showing appendicitis and I was told I'd need surgery. Fine. What followed was a 14-hour wait for an OR to become available. Fourteen hours of lying in an ER hallway on a stretcher with appendicitis. The nurses were apologetic but clearly powerless to do anything about it. When I finally had surgery it went fine and the surgeon was skilled. But my overall stay was marked by long waits between nursing assessments, inconsistent pain management (sometimes great, sometimes I was waiting an hour after pressing the call button), and a discharge process that took almost 5 hours. I asked the discharge nurse why it took so long and she shrugged and said 'that's just how it is here.' I don't doubt the medical competence of this hospital. The doctors and many of the nurses are clearly good at what they do. But the systems around the clinical care - the wait times, the staffing levels, the communication, the coordination - are failing patients. I expected more.

The social worker helped me navigate disability paperwork. Above and beyond.
