Good insurer for California. Not as integrated as Kaiser but more flexible in terms of provider choice. Claims are processed reasonably quickly. Customer service is average. The Wellvolution wellness program has some nice features including free gym memberships on certain plans.

Had Blue Shield for two years. Solid coverage with a good network. Premiums are high but that is just California. The formulary is standard. No major issues with claims or prior auths. Decent choice if you want BCBS level coverage with more provider flexibility than Kaiser.

Blue Shield of CA is a nonprofit which is a nice distinction. Their network is solid throughout California especially in major metro areas. The Trio HMO plan is their most affordable option and it works well if you stay in network. The app is decent for managing care. My complaint is that out of network coverage is basically nonexistent on most plans.
